During quarantine, I found myself using different products than normal. This makes for an interesting round of beauty empties. Looking at this picture, I obviously was using a lot of root cover up and mascara! Reminds me of that game, if you could take beauty products on a deserted island, which ones would you take haha 🙂 Let’s dig through my beauty trash and see if these beauty empties are a buy or bye!
Ahh, root cover up. These two little bottles were my saving grace during quarantine. They both worked great so I want to share my thoughts on both since there are a few differences. The L’Oreal Magic Root Cover-up seems to have a larger range of colors and is available at most retailers. It is a slightly smaller bottle but not by much. The big negatives for me are that it is more expensive for a smaller amount and for me applied a little on the wet side. The product works great though and a little goes a long way. I didnt have to reapply between shampoo’s either. This one is a BUY for me.
The TRESemme Root touch-up also worked very well. The bottle is .5 oz larger and is a couple dollars less expensive. I do feel like you need a little more product with this one. The application didn’t have a wet feeling but was a little more heavy handed with my application. From what I can tell, the color selection is on the minimal side but broad enough. Ultimately, both worked well and this one would also be a BUY for me!
Up next, base face products. Let’s start with the elephant in the room. The Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water is not empty. I will always be transparent so here is the skinny on this primer. I really wanted to like this product. So much so, that I have had this same bottle for a little over a year. No pun intended here. I know the word water is in the name but the spray was very wet for me. I also felt it didn’t do the best job keeping my makeup looking fresh through out the day. So unfortunately, this one is a BYE for me.
Concealers normally take awhile for me to use up. I was doing a lot of minimal makeup looks during quarantine to feel some sense of normalcy so this guy was my ride or die. This was my first time trying the coveted NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer and it did not disappoint. My thoughts are that a little goes a long way and I did not have any creasing issues under my eyes. The product is also lightweight while providing solid coverage. This is definitely a BUY for me.
Mascara needed it’s own category looks like! Starting with the one I am on the fence with, MAC In Extreme Dimension 3D Mascara. Mascara is a product I am picky with. I’m on the fence with it only because I wasn’t in love with it. For me, it took a long time to dry once applied and it wore off during the day. I gravitate to this one when I am doing a minimal makeup look and mostly staying around the house. I’m leaning towards BYE on this one.
These last mascara’s are constant repurchases for me. TooFaced Better Than Sex, Lancome Definicils, and L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Primer are my go to mascaras. Too Faced mascara I use on my top lashes and it gives me a very full look. Best of all, it stays put all day. Most likely, this is with the help of the L’Oreal lash primer. In my opinion, this primer is just as good as some higher end brands and under $10. The Lancome mascara is and probably forever will be my bottom lash mascara. I feel like the wand was made for bottom lashes. No clumping and I sometimes run this one through the top to break up lashes, if need be.
Last but most important in the beauty regime, skin care. Not a ton in this round of beauty empties but never the less, these are good ones. Facial cleansers are one of those skin care items I rotate throughout the week. The Clinique rinse-off foaming cleanser is one I use the most when I have it. It’s gentle yet leaves my skin feeling very clean. Definitely a BUY for me!
When it comes to eye cream, I feel like it can be tricky to find ones that show a noticeable difference. I received a sample of the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex and I really liked it. I actually used it as my daytime eye cream though! It worked great under my makeup and really kept my skin tight around my eyes. This is a BUY for me especially since I could visibly see a difference.
So I’m dying to hear, what beauty empties do you have that you love?
Till Next Time,
Love the Better than Sex mascara! And I really need to try out that root touch up!

Same! I always have one on hand. Both the root touch ups work great!
I invested in some root cover up too back in April when I desperately needed to go to the salon. I also LOVE the Better Than Sex mascara. Thanks for sharing – there are some new items here I’ve never heard of.
