The more ways you can style closet staples the better! I love easy to wear pieces that you can dress up or down. I’m sharing five closet staples for Fall that I think are a must have in any wardrobe. I hope this post provides you with some closet inspiration for Fall!
Jean Jackets and Plaid Flannels
Who loves a good jean jacket?! A jean jacket is one of those staples where you buy a good one and you don’t have to buy another one for a long time. Unless you want to 😉 This cropped jean jacket is so versatile. In all honesty, it’s a piece I wear year round. There’s just something about a jean jacket with white denim in Fall. I have always gravitated towards this look.
A plaid flannel is the epitome of Fall. I feel like it is an American right of passage to wear plaid flannels in the Fall! I paired my flannel with a jean jacket but there are so many ways to wear them. A few of my faves are with graphic tees, jean shorts and faux leather leggings.
Chunky Cardigans
When styling for petites, you want to air on the side of caution with cardigans. They are warm and cozy but can very quickly overtake your whole look. I recommend to select a cardigan that is no longer than mid thigh. The length could make you look shorter than you really are and if you’re already 5’2″ like me, we don’t want that!
The other tip I want to share with you is if the cardigan is chunky or oversized in any way, have the rest of your outfit be more on the fitted side. Oversized coupled with loose fitting clothing underneath = frumpy.
Cozy Sherpas and Solid Denim
Sherpa’s are a cute casual look for running errands or a shopping day in cooler weather. These Abercrombie sherpa’s are some of my favorites. They are more of a slim fit so they do not engulf your body as some of them can. For this look I did add some booties for a slightly dressier look but you can just as easily wear them with leggings and sneakers.
When it comes to denim in the Fall, I recommend you steer away from heavy distressing. If you read my Wearing White After Labor Day post, this was a tip I mentioned there as well. Non distressed denim gives a cozier look, where as distressed denim gives off a Spring/Summer vibe. I love having a few pairs of solid denim in my wardrobe that I can wear year after year.
As for me, these will forever be closet staples! What are some of your go to closet staples that you wear year after year?
