Looking Back On 2020 – What a Year to Reflect

How to even begin a post about looking back on 2020. Needless to say, 2020 was a tragic year for the US and for the World. So much hurt, loss, and heartbreak. Praying that 2021 will bring light, happiness, and love.

Personally, 2020 was just a weird and crazy year. There was a few low moments but there were also some of the happiest and most exciting moments that happened this year! Let’s walk down memory lane as I reflect on my 2020.

January & February

The beginning of the year was great! Everything was status quo. It was just the daily grind and nothing really too exciting was going on in our neck of the woods. Little did we know we would shortly be praying for life to be normal and boring again!

March

As for a lot of us, everything changed. What a whirlwind of a month. Let’s start with work. I’m not sure if many of you know that by day I am in Human Resources as a Corporate Senior Recruiter. In March I was coming up on my 3 year anniversary with the company I was with. To make a long story short, I was headhunted to another company within the same industry doing the same role but with more opportunity. I accepted and I was set to start the new job on March 22nd. On March 11th, COVID was declared a pandemic in FL.

I had no idea what was going to happen. All the questions swirling in my head. Did I make the right decision, are they still going to start me, what if I’m now out of a job. Hallelujah! March 22nd came and it was all systems go! They had moved all workers to remote and didn’t skip a beat. I was so blessed. That could have turned out differently.

Then comes what I’m sure you all experienced. The great paper goods shortage of 2020. What in the world! It’s safe for me to say that I never thought the day would come where I’m checking with my family to make sure they have enough tp because I’m at the store and they actually have some in stock. Do you need me to pick some tp up for you? 🤣 20+ years from now looking back on 2020 in history books, I can only imagine what it will say!

April

April is when Florida went under a “stay at home” executive order issued by our Governor. If I recall correctly, it lasted right about 30 days. You all went through a version of this in your states. It was weird, right?! Really the oddest thing I’ve experienced thus far in my life.

There was a lot that happened in these next few months and when it occurred is fuzzy on some so we are going to group this all together 🙂

  • Tristan became permanent work from home!
  • We painted the exterior of our home by ourselves
  • Front of the house landscape installation
  • We re-bricked the front pavers around the landscaping
  • Mom was in the hospital for 2 weeks (not COVID related). 1 visitor per day so Tristan and I rotated days. So blessed that we could actually see her
  • Added a side patio where before was an awkward fenced in grass patch
  • Replaced our kitchen appliances

Whew! We made it this far looking back on 2020. Only 3 more months to go and they are a doozy!

October

This was a month of adjustment. I was part of a reduction in force from my new job. This was all very new for me. From the time I was 16, I had worked and I never left a job without a new one lined up. After a day of sadness I got on the job boards and started applying like crazy.

I also felt the pull to The Daily Petite. My brand, my blog, my YouTube channel, all of it. I had this unexpected vast amount of time on my hands and wanted to make great use of it. I started The Daily Petite in October 2019 and had a handful of blog posts but it was very casual.

This was the month I started treating The Daily Petite as a business and not a hobby. It has been a blast! So much time and hard work but so rewarding at the same time. I love every second of it.

November

Whoa! This was the most exciting month of my life to date. On November 25th it was our 3 year anniversary. This is also the day Tristan and I got engaged!! We had talked about getting married and I figured it would be happening soon I just didn’t know when.

December

December 3rd was my 40th birthday! Eek! We spent the day with family and went to our favorite local restaurant, Fish Bones. Age is just a number they say and I definitely don’t feel my age but I’ll be honest, it’s a little surreal to say I’m 40.

I received a job offer to start a new role mid January! Same industry and role that I was in with my last two companies and so grateful I wasn’t out of work too long.

We had a great Christmas with family and really enjoyed some down time together. Lots of Christmas movies, laughs, sleeping in, and cookies!

What a year! Looking back on 2020 makes me feel like, 2021 I’m ready for ya! I wish you all a safe, healthy, and prosperous 2021.

Till Next Time,

Don't Miss It!
