Simple and Effective Daytime Skincare Routine

If I could talk to my younger self, I would say where is your daytime skincare routine? Or for that matter, any skincare at all! It’s not until we start getting into our late 20’s early 30’s that we realize how important skincare really is. For those of you who started young, you will be so thankful.

Like most things in life, simple and effective is what I go for when possible. No need to over complicate! Also, these days who has time to be complicated! The main things I look for in my skincare is added hydration and anti-aging components. Let’s walk through my 5 step morning skin care routine!

Getting Toned

A good toner is the first step, after washing your face of course 😉 My skin has changed over the recent years so to be honest, I actually alternate toners day to day. The two toners I have been using the most this year are Mario Badescu Aloe Vera Toner and Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2.

Something I had to learn was listen to your skin. Until recently, I used one toner. As my skin started to change, I noticed that my skin did well with the Clinique clarifying lotion but I felt like I needed a buffer. The Clinique toner leaves my skin feeling very clean and that it is ready for the day. With this toner it’s really important to get the right one for your skin type. Currently I am using the dry to combination formula.

A great go between is the Mario Badescu toner. This toner is still effective without that stripping my skin feeling afterwards. It is gentle on the skin but I do find that I use more of this one. I think I am trying to achieve that “stripped” feeling I get with the Clinique toner. My skin thanks me for weaving this toner in through the week. Both are reasonably priced which doesn’t hurt either! I linked them with two different retailers below.

Extra Hydration Please

This past year, my skin started shouting from the rooftops for extra hydration. I started to use a hydration serum and I have noticed a huge difference in the way my skin feels as well as how my makeup applies. The two I have been reaching for the most are Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum and Mario Badescu Hyaluronic Dew Drops.

Both serums are lightweight and easily can be worn underneath your makeup. The Drunk Elephant serum’s hydrating power comes from Vitamin B5 and Pineapple ceramide. They do recommend to exfoliate regularly for maximum absorption. My other go to hydration serum in my daytime skincare is the Hyaluronic Dew Drops. This is a powerhouse in a 1oz. bottle. The big players in this product are hyaluronate, lactic acid, and thyme extract.

I will be the first to admit I used to shy away from products that had the word acid in them. I automatically thought it would dry my skin and make it peel ☺️ . That is the embarrassed emoji in case you couldn’t tell! Hyaluronic acid is just the opposite! When my skin was looking on the dry side, this product revived my skin.

I Scream For Eye Cream

Lame I know 😉 But so true! Eye cream is such a staple in my skin care routine. Eye cream can also be tricky; especially if you’re trying to accomplish more than one thing. Hydration and anti aging are my targets with eye creams. To help me target those areas I reach for Clinique Moisture Surge Eye 96-hour Hydro Filler Concentrate for hydration which in turn helps your eyes to look less wrinkled. I also grab the Tula Glow & Get It Cooling and Brightening Eye Balm.

I have yet to find a daytime eye cream for anti-aging that is wearable under makeup. Although hydration is a huge key and first step to youthful looking eyes, I do wish there was some punch to these. To be honest, if I could wear retinol during the day, I probably would!

Moisturize & Spritz

The myth has been and will be that moisturizer will make your skin oily and you can’t wear it underneath makeup. If this is you, great news! Those myths are not true.

Although you can absolutely wear moisturizer under your makeup for your daytime skincare, you do want to be careful of two things. One, that it is lightweight and two, that it is the right formula for your skin. I have tried a lot of moisturizers and my tried and true is the Clinique Moisture Surge 72-hour Auto Replenishing Hydrator. The hydration it provides my skin without leaving any sort of residue or stickiness has no comparison.

Onto the spritz! Ok, real talk. This step is one that I would say is a nice to have, but not necessary. A facial spray leaves my skin feeling fresh and just a nice way to end my skincare routine in the morning. There are hydrating elements so I like to think it’s doing something for my skin! The facial spray I end my daytime skincare routine lately with is the Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Cucumber, and Green Tea. They do also have a Rosewater Facial Spray that I love.

Toners can be trial and error but once you find one you’ll never go with out it! My skin type is dry to combination for reference 🙂
